I suppose one might qualify the success of such as Mogwai as being able to pitch up in any given region or state, while retaining an ability to bring along 400 paying customers to the gate. Arguing that against a chart position against the kudos on the street against marketing spend against the sheer quality of a musician is an argument for another thread/another week/another mission. Whatever, this new Magnificents track is so much of a step-up, it's thrilling, and may well make 'em a killing (in a field of lesser seeds). Yeah, and I intend to travel to Newcastle this Thursday to catch their major-league live feed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14847688.post-1144761163904156222006-04-11T06:12:00.000-07:002006-04-11T06:12:00.000-07:00Totally forgot to say: (a) I think it's at The Ven...Totally forgot to say: (a) I think it's at The Venue, and (b) est tracks last night were Tiger Choir, Digital Dirt, Explorers, and Get It Boy (obviously).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14847688.post-1144761115491734392006-04-11T06:11:00.000-07:002006-04-11T06:11:00.000-07:00The mags = most underapreciated act ever. At their age - and, perhaps not having anything to fall back on(?) - going the full hog, as it were, with the band, and not making a living out of it would be a nightmare scenario. I just can't see them attaining the level of Mogwai's success, as you accurately pointed out there. Hope I'm wrong, though.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14847688.post-1144760641668992162006-04-11T06:04:00.000-07:002006-04-11T06:04:00.000-07:00Agreed. Can never see them reaching the 'success' (its meaning?) of Mogwai, but wish them the very best nonetheless.
